Geometric progression(nth term)

About the calculation of Geometric progression(nth term)

Enter the first term, the common ratio, and the nth term you want to calculate and click "calculate geometric progression." specified number and number between first term and 20th number is calculated.

It also shows how to calculate the nth term.

Please enter up to 15 digits for First term and Common ratio, and up to 10,000 for nth term.

What is Geometric progression?

A geometric sequence is a sequence in which the ratio of each adjacent term is the same.

The first term in a sequence is called the first term, and the ratio of each adjacent term is called the common ratio.

For example, the following sequence has a first term of 1 and a common ratio of 3.

Since the common ratio is 3, the ratio of all adjacent terms is 1:3.

1, 3, 9, 27, 81, 243, 729...

How to calculate Geometric progression of nth term

Since the ratio of adjacent terms in a geometric sequence is equal, if the first term is a1 and the common ratio is r, it can be expressed as follows.

a1, a1 × r, a1 × r2, a1 × r3, a1 × r4...

So, the nth number is the first term multiplied by the common ratio (n-1) times.

If the nth term is an, it can be expressed as follows:

an = a1 × r(n − 1)
nth term = First term × Common ratio(n − 1)
