Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the minimum amount of energy required to be consumed even when a person is not doing anything.

Even when you lie down and rest, organs such as the heart and lungs are active and consume energy.

The amount of energy you expend during this time is your basal metabolic rate.

The basal metabolic rate changes with age, peaking at the ages of 15-17 for men and 12-14 for women.

The basal metabolic rate is calculated using the following formula.

Male: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 x Body weight(kg)) + (4.799 x Height(cm)) - (5.677 x Age(years old))

Female: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 x Body weight(kg)) + (3.098 x Height(cm)) - (4.330 x Age(years old))
